Kilis 7 Aralık University is an active participant in Erasmus+, the European Union’s flagship programme for education, training and academic mobility. As a holder of the ECHE – European Charter for Higher Education, awarded by the European Commission, our university is authorized to implement Erasmus+ higher education mobility activities in accordance with internationally recognized quality and ethical standards.
The Erasmus programme was launched in 1987 by the European Community and has evolved over time through programmes such as Socrates, Erasmus Mundus and, since 2014, Erasmus+, becoming one of the largest academic mobility and cooperation networks in the world. Today, Erasmus+ constitutes a core policy instrument of the European Union in the fields of education, youth, sport and volunteering, covering more than 100 countries and creating a truly global higher education ecosystem.
Türkiye joined the Erasmus programme as a full participating country in 2004, enabling Turkish universities to become an integral part of the European Higher Education Area. Within this framework, Kilis 7 Aralık University regards Erasmus+ not merely as a mobility scheme, but as a central pillar of its institutional internationalisation strategy.
Founded in 2007 by Law No. 5662 published in the Official Gazette, Kilis 7 Aralık University is built upon a long-standing academic heritage that predates its formal establishment. The university’s academic structure was shaped through the opening of key faculties and schools such as the Vocational School (1987), Yusuf Şerefoğlu School of Health (1997), Muallim Rıfat Faculty of Education (1998) and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (2003), before attaining full university status in 2007 and expanding rapidly thereafter.
Today, the university comprises 12 faculties, 4 vocational schools, 1 school of higher education, 1 graduate institute and 1 state conservatory, serving approximately 15,000 students with the support of nearly 500 academic staff. With its multiple campuses, research centres, libraries and modern social and cultural facilities, Kilis 7 Aralık University continues to strengthen its position as a dynamic and growing higher education institution in the region.
This strong institutional capacity enables Erasmus+ activities at Kilis 7 Aralık University to go beyond student exchange and function as a strategic tool for enhancing academic quality, increasing international visibility and building global partnerships. The university is committed to providing its students and staff with opportunities to study, teach, train and conduct research abroad, to develop intercultural competences and to engage actively in international academic networks.
