Under the Erasmus+ KA171 staff mobility for teaching, our University hosted two academics from Caucasus International University, Georgia: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Miranda Mikadze and Asst. Prof. Dr. Gela Giorgadze. The guests met our students and academic staff through lectures and academic presentations.
At the event titled “The Role of Academic Institutions in Conflict Prevention”, the visiting academics discussed the functions of higher education institutions in peacebuilding, social reconciliation and conflict resolution. Their presentations emphasised that the social responsibilities of universities extend beyond teaching and research, and assessed the contribution of academic institutions to fostering dialogue between cultures. Addressing the social, political and cultural dimensions of current regional and global conflicts, they underlined that universities, by encouraging critical thinking, play an important role in spreading a culture of peace. It was also noted that higher education institutions help strengthen mutual understanding between societies through international cooperation, academic mobility programmes and joint research.
Our University continues to strengthen its international academic cooperation under the Erasmus+ programme and to give students the opportunity to meet academics from different countries. Beyond academic exchange, this mobility made an important contribution to intercultural interaction.
